In 1992 the Catholic Bishops of Australia established the Australian Council for Clergy Life and Ministry, a National Office, and Diocesan Directors to enhance the Ongoing Formation and Education of Clergy and to ensure their Ongoing Support and Care.

Fr John Leahy died suddenly on Tuesday 18th August while on vacation. He was a senior priest of the Diocese of Sandhurst and will be remembered for his wide pastoral contribution across the Diocese over  many years. He played a significant role for his Diocese during the Ministry to Priest Programme in the mid-1980s. John will be buried from St Killian's Church, Bendigo, on Tuesday 25th August.
